Entering the Heavens- A Bridge From Hopelessness to Happiness

Good Soil Partners intervened in Harry Khudze’s life when his family had no hope of sending Harry to his secondary school. As the firstborn child, Harry often accompanied his parents to their local farm and spent hours watching them manage their different farm operations. The farm was the only shared farmland thatSupported his family financially but, when harvests were insufficient due to the shortage of minerals (fertilizer), it was hard to stay afloat.Watching his parents run these farm operations instilled in Henry the desire to own and manage his own local farm, and being the firstborn, his family depended on him to help lead and provide for the family. His family knew that education was important, so they sent Henry to Chimutu Primary School, a local government school. Harry had a stellar school performance, to the point where both his parents and teachers were encouraging him to proceed with his education and even advance to the point where only “professors” advance to. But his family was worried that once he passed the primary examination to attend secondary school, they would not be able to afford his school fees and materials anymore. His family couldn’t even raise $35 to help pay for Harry’s secondary academic tuition and so in turn, could not afford for him to attend school.Through the Good Soil Partners Scholarship program, GSP offered to help Harry with all of the school fees and materials. Harry’s family referred to this GSP scholarship opportunity as like they were “entering the heavens” because the scholarship worked as the bridge to cross him from this state of hopelessness to happiness. He soon passed the final secondary school examinations, the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) that put him on the path to the University of Malawi - Chancellor College.Harry is now in the third year of his studies and the financial burden that would have been placed on his family is now gone as GSP and generous donors are working to support him. His cumulative GPA is now a 3.68 for the four semesters he has been in school and he is on his way to graduate with a distinction. Being the firstborn in the family and the first to attend school at a university level, he is hungry to work hard and learn more, always ready to give back to his family and his community.
