An Entrepreneur in the Making
Entrepreneurship is an art and it takes hard work, self-motivation, and growth to succeed. Sydney Chabuka aspires to become an entrepreneur and he knows he has a huge responsibility of forging his own path and making his entrepreneurial dreams come true.Sydney is the fourth child in a family of five children, and the only one to reach university level because his siblings dropped out of school due to the lack of financial support. His parents are business people with his father being a bricklayer and his mother selling food and goods in her community. Running these small businesses could not sustain both the family’s livelihood as well as their children’s education, therefore, Sydney’s older siblings had no choice but to let Sydney complete his education.
“I’d like to give back to my siblings who sacrificed their future for mine, in turn, I plan to encourage and support them in venturing into entrepreneurship and business so that they are able to sustain themselves. Entrepreneurship is key to problem-solving in Malawi, and that is what I plan to do,” explains Sydney.
Sydney is currently studying Computer Network at the University of Malawi Chancellor College. In his third year, the 22-year-old has grand plans of developing rural communities in Malawi by enabling them to access Wi-Fi, similar to urban areas. He plans to achieve this by partnering with internet service providers in Malawi to broaden their network scopes in rural communities. Sydney believes that the availability of the internet in local areas will be extremely influential towards businesses and people’s livelihoods.
"My biggest lesson in life has been knowing that I don’t have to complete my education or reach greater heights to become an Entrepreneur. What I need is to start now and with the knowledge, discipline, and patience I have developed under Good Soil Partners, and use that in following my dreams. I have been a part of the Good Soil Partners Scholarship program for 3 years now and throughout this journey I have been trained on Entrepreneurship and Leadership skills, equipping me for the real world."
