The Barriers Malawi’s Youth Faces
Unstable Economic Conditions
With an average daily income of just $1.70/day (or $630/year), Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. More than 15 million people live in extreme poverty.
Cultural PRESSURE
When education is not an option, the pressure to marry young is extremely high. By the time a young girl turns 18, 46% are already married and have started a family.
Education Crisis
Severe overcrowding, lack of supplies & technology, high-cost of secondary school & university, and insufficient resources prevent quality education in public schools.

Empower Youth like Emma Through the Freedom of Education
Emma’s Story
Emma was only three years old when Good Soil Partners cofounder, Cindy Chartier, met her in Kang’oma Village in Malawi. Her mother sold bread in the village because her dad was unemployed. Feeding their family of five was extremely difficult with this limited income and Cindy couldn’t help but be worried about this beautiful girl’s future.
Because of Good Soil Partners, two years ago, Emma received a school scholarship. Today, Emma just finished 10th grade and is number two in her class… and striving for number one. Emma wants to be a doctor, and with her grades and her drive, she will likely succeed.
If Good Soil Partners did not provide Emma with a school scholarship, her education would have ended at 8th grade.
Emma is one of the many students in our programs who flourish, breaking the cycle of poverty, and transforming their communities.
