An Agent of Change and Refuge in Times of Need
Where dreams come true, lives are changed. At an early age, Promise always had big dreams for her life, and as any child, she looked to make a difference in the world - She wanted to be a nurse!Growing up in Malawi was difficult and being in a family of 5 ,with her father being their only source of income, it made life even harder. Out of her siblings, she was the only child who qualified for university but her family was unable to afford the high prices of education. So Promise had to find small pieces of work in order to gradually pay off her college fees, school necessities, and exam fees. On top of that, she needed to help provide basic needs such as food and clothing for her family. Every day after classes, she would move from house to house, washing clothes in order to earn some income. But the finances of college were way to high, so in turn, Promise's education took a halt. This is when she met Good Soil Partners.
Through a network of friends, Promise learned about Good Soil Partners and the scholarship funding that they could help offer her in order to complete her education. Good Soil Partners provided Promise with tuition fees that paid for the rest of her university as well as funding her examination fee's. With the help of Good Soil Partners, Promise completed her university and graduated with a Diploma in Community Development! With diploma in hand, her education paved the way for Promise to acquire a job opportunity at a non-profit called "When the Saints!" This job opportunity would not have been possible without her college education and because of it, she can help support her family and give back to her communities!
Promise says, “My dream has always been to be an agent of change - in my family as well as in my community. I believe transformation occurs at an individual level, family, and then the community. Now that I am working, I manage to pay school fees for my younger sister, as well as help support the rest of my family. My plan now is to reach out to the communities and provide the elderly with resources for their basic needs. It is the elderly that pay the price of supporting their offspring and in return they get little or nothing so I’d like to be their refuge in their times of need.”
